Welcome to Ben Shaw Ben, who joins us today as a designer.   Ben originally took to web design under the tutelage of his cousin, who ran his own web design company.   What began as a hobby developed into a course switch from the Networking BTEC he was studying at College to a more “new media” oriented course at University at the suggestion of his tutors.  They’d seen the web stuff he was already working on at home and Ben’s work on the web design module of the BTEC.  He went on to study New Media at the University of Leeds.

As the course progressed Ben narrowed his interest down to design for the web with a keen focus on accessibility and usability. He also had a real liking for Cold Fusion (which he has since found seems to be universally hated!) and built a bespoke CMS and community driven website as part of his final year project (later featured by Web Designer Magazine).  Once he finished University he moved to London and worked as a freelance web designer most notably on a research project run by the Rix Centre and The University of East London.  He was brought in on the project to build and design their new website. He’s still involved in the further evolution of the project and the website. Ben also spends much of his time cultivating his own personal web projects – one for a band of whom he is an avid fan – Matchbox Twenty, and a variety of others including one for the over 50′s!

Latterly, he worked as a User Interface designer for Miniweb Interactive and spent last year designing the new interface for their new V3 Concept – a fully integrated entertainment platform for use on set top boxes.  As the only designer for Miniweb he missed the input of other people, particularly other designers, hence his enthusiasm for the opportunity to work here at Fresh Egg.
