Crap SEO’s, they’re out there and they want your business!
I was asked to look at a flooring site on Tuesday with regard to pitching against another company that was supposedly optimising the site. It is always good to look at others work because there are always things we can learn from one another.
This was not a time when I would be seeing a work of art.
There are those occasions where you look at someone else’s work and ask yourself how some other SEO’s have the front to be charging clients money?
The site I reviewed on Tuesday was certainly one of them. The Search Engine Optimisation was shocking and for any SEO putting their name to the idea they had begun to optimise the site, well they need to do two things.
- Hand themselves over to Trading Standards
- Retire from the industry
Nothing annoys me more than companies fleecing clients, and the site I looked at on Tuesday was a clear case of this. Firstly the incumbent SEO was trying to justify they had not had enough time on the site. OK, that I can go along with, results do not happen overnight. That said, once a skin of SEO is applied I would expect to see the green shoots of growth within around four weeks.
The trouble is, there was no skin of SEO, so how could they rightly assume they would be getting results?
Even if the Search Engine Optimisation was ‘work in progress’ I can only assume the work was being carried out by a blind snail, because I could not envisage any decent SEO having got anywhere near this site.
I have to ask myself the following questions:
- How do SEO companies with crap results get business?
- How does the person responsible for the SEO on this particular site sleep at night?
We live by our results at Fresh Egg, without gaining results for our clients we don’t obtain new SEO business. We are in a better position than most as we have excellent web design and web development teams as well as my SEO Team.
Most of our business comes through referral, and I am always happy to put our work to the sword against any other agency, but others must dread it when they actually go up against an SEO Team that knows what it is about.
Here’s a clue to any half-wit pretend SEO who is reading this, you actually have to do the work in order to get results! Now there’s a thought, actually having to do some work in order to gain good rankings. Perhaps you pretend SEO’s should try it some time.
