Facebook courts businesses with new guide

Facebook has created an online information centre to court businesses that have yet to use the social network's corporate features.

Businesses thinking of dipping their feet in with Facebook can find out more about adverts, sponsored stories and company pages using the information hub. It features a marketing pitch, a guide and a number of links to help convince companies Facebook is for them.

The online education centre tells businesses they can reach their target audience by filtering interests, location and more through Facebook. The guide also explains how firms can build relationships with their customers and get valuable insights on target markets.

Facebook has been dealing with businesses since it launched Facebook Ads in November 2007, so competitors will have their work cut out to secure corporate revenue of their own.

Google+, which was launched at the end of June but does not yet offer corporate features, has delayed its plans to trial business pages on its new social network with a limited number of companies.

It says it will make business pages available "in the next few months" and has asked companies not to create personal profiles in the meantime.

V3 said while Google has won few friends by deleting companies that set up personal pages, Google+ for Business could still pose a threat to Facebook when it launches later this year.
