Fresh Egg do the London to Brighton bike ride

NatalieD Dartnell

Last weekend, the unofficial Fresh Egg racing team joined over 27,000 cyclists (including Princess Eugenie and Ricky Gervais) on the London to Brighton Bike Ride.

Chris, Matt, Ollie, Rex, Nick and Suzie joined together to support The British Heart Foundation, and have earned over £1,000 to date. The race started at Clapham Common, at a very bleary-eyed 6am, and finished at Brighton Pier. The toughest part of the ride is the climb over the Ditchling Beacon – 0.99 miles with an average grade exceeding 10% – but this is rewarded with the most spectacular views and a fast and breath-taking descent.

The London to Brighton Bike Ride began in 1976 with 60 or so riders, and was organised by the local Friends of the Earth. The bike run as we know it today had its first outing in 1980.

Back at the office the following day, Chris says:

"It was a really excellent event. The main thing is that none of us had an accident or even had a puncture! In fact, I think the pre race day Jäger-bombs spurred us on to get up Ditchling Beacon without walking, which is a great achievement (it’s a climb up to the top @ 725ft)."

Whether or not it was the pre race day Jäger-bombs, they did incredibly well and totally deserved their post-ride beers! You can still sponsor the team for their efforts via their JustGiving page. Roll on next year!
