Unborn children join Facebook!
Parents expecting a baby can now announce the good news on Facebook! There has been a new addition to the family member status option, which allows users to select the option “Expected: Child”. Parents can also add a photo of the unborn child and due date.
But do you think this is too much? Unfortunately life doesn’t always go to plan and should the worse happen, it could lead to a potentially awful situation.
Facebook announces plans for new iPad App
This week Facebook has announced that it had acquired Push Pop Press. Best known for the iOS version of the Our Choice app, which is possibly one of the most innovative visual book on any platform. Here is what Push Pop had to say about this new acquisition:
Now we’re taking our publishing technology and everything we’ve learned and are setting off to help design the world’s largest book, Facebook.
Although Facebook isn’t planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories. With millions of people publishing to Facebook each day, we think it’s going to be a great home for Push Pop Press.”
This partnership could lead to incredible possibilities, not just for Facebook but for companies who could use the iPad app to make more creative and engaging pages for the app.
Germany says no to Facial Recognition
Facebooks’s face-recognition photo-tagging system is not new to opposition, so it is no surprise that Germany and the EU have raised concerns. According to Hamburg’s data protection agency the new system would violate German and European privacy Laws.
The feature, which is designed to shorten the time consuming task of tagging friends in photos, enables users to put a face to a friends name literally. The tool is enabled buy default but can be turned off in the privacy settings.
As previously mentioned in June the European Union was in uproar and investigated the potential privacy risks. It has now come to light that Hamburg’s Data Protection Agency has sent Facebook and official notice to demand it to disable the feature in Germany and delete any data collected from it’s German users. If Facebook do not comply German authorities will take action, meaning Facebook could face a fine of €300,000.
Germany is quite serious about privacy, in January this year they raised concerns about Facebook’s use of email addresses of people who aren’t on Facebook and in 2010 Google had to enable households to opt out of Google street view. More than 240,000 households opted not to be included.
A Facebook rep told Spiegel Online the company was looking into the issue, but that it “firmly rejected any accusations that we are not complying with our obligations to European Union data protection laws.”
Obama loses 36,000+ Twitter followers
Tensions have been high in the U.S whilst the government tried to compromise on how to deal with it’s deficit crisis. The White House was tweeting last wee to keep the public updated and informed about the development. But on Friday night President Obama got a bit tweet happy when he asked his 9 million followers to tweet at their Republican Congressmen to ask them to support a bipartisan solution to the crisis.
@BarakObama then tweeted out the Twitter accounts of Republican Congressmen state by state. He also used the hash tag #compromise which was RT’s more than 22,000 and estimated to reach 36Million users by 5pm ET on Friday. The Presidents name was mentioned 28,000 times. NM incite says that 40% of the Barack Obama mentions were positive with just 13% of the tweets being negative and 28% of #compromise tweets being positive and only 12% having a negative sentiment.
This did lead to over 36,000 people to ‘unfollow’ the President as they felt they were being spammed. During this time Republican’s gained followers with on Republican congressmen seeing an increase of over 6500 in his followers.
