Facebook hits 900 million users

Last month Facebook surpassed 900 Million users! If all users formed a line, it would reach to the moon and back with plenty of people to spare. Whilst 900Million users is impressive, Facebook rate of growth is slowing. Facebook's took three months to go from 700Million to 800Million users, but took another five months to reach 900Million. LinkedIn gets an iPad makeover

LinkedIn has finally launched an iPad app, and it is beautiful. The layout is similar to that of the iPhone app that was released late 2011. It leaves me wondering why the website isn’t as pretty and user-friendly.

The app has been built with key features like touch and the retina display in mind. LinkedIn itself said:

 

“We know that our members use their iPads heavily during the morning and evening hours. This “Coffee & Couch” behaviour is so pronounced that we designed our new app to make every professional feel like they have their own personal assistant. Imagine having one place where you can get all the info you need about who you’re meeting with that day, trending and timely news that is impacting your industry, who’s changed jobs and what your co-workers are sharing, liking, and commenting on. We’ve pulled all this for you, all in one place.”

Some of the great features of the new app include the ability to sync all your calendars on your device and pull in the LinkedIn profile of any event attendee.

Not only does the Updates page show your calendar, location and the temperature, but it also displays all the latest stories on your feed in a layout similar to Flipboard, which makes it easy to navigate. Underneath the news feed, the app displays who has viewed your profile, people with new jobs and what your co workers are sharing.

 

The Olympics is anti-social

Having your country host the Olympics is a once in a lifetime experience, getting a ticket to the games has been harder than getting a golden ticket in your ‘Wonka’ bar. So if you were lucky enough to get one you no doubt would like to document it with pictures or video, and as is perfectly normal uploaded it on to Facebook or Twitter, yes? No, according to the London 2012 Olympic's “conditions for ticket holders”. They state you are not allowed to EXPLOIT any footage of your Olympic experience on Social Media.

Images, video and sound recordings of the Games taken by a Ticket Holder cannot be used for any purpose other than for private and domestic purposes and a Ticket Holder may not license, broadcast or publish video and/or sound recordings, including on social networking websites and the internet more generally, and may not exploit images, video and/or sound recordings for commercial purposes under any circumstances, whether on the internet or otherwise, or make them available to third parties for commercial purposes.

Personally, I think this is brand management gone mad. The Olympics is meant to bring the country together and get people excited about sports, not scared of prosecution. What about those of us who didn’t get a ticket? I thought this was London 2012 not London 1984…
