Our MD Adam Stafford co-presented with our Chairman, James Caan, at this year’s PPA Awards held at the Grosvenor House hotel on June 30th. It was for just one category – the Fresh Egg sponsored Business Website of The Year. Comedian Dara O’Briain presented the rest of the evening very ably!  It was a formal sparkling, 1920’s themed affair, which is why the photo below looks like a cast shot from an Agatha Christie play.
The deserved winner was Reed Business Information for its fwi.co.uk (Farmers Weekly Interactive) site that’s grown significantly year on year, generating increased revenues, page impressions and unique users. The social media environment, FWiSpace, was crucial in expanding the brand’s presence beyond the magazine audience.
That chimes completely with Adam’s existing views on how magazines can embrace the online world. Instead of being seen as a dire threat to the existence of ‘conventional print media’ as sometimes seems to be the predominant mood, opportunities presented by the Internet and social media should be explored by publishers.
There are similarities in audience and approach because magazines have a loyal customer base (readership) which you could call a ‘community ‘of users. This ‘community’ theme is the way in which magazines can harness the power of the web, strengthening and extending their ‘community’ and building ongoing relationships that are beneficial to both parties.
