We all knew this was coming: Facebook has finally hit over one billion active users. Yesterday Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement via his Facebook profile, which has over 16 million subscribers.
Facebook announced this week that users will be able to pay to promote their personal posts. The tests started in New Zealand back in May and has gradually rolled out to more than 20 countries. Rolled out for testing in the US on Wednesday, the Facebook blog says:
“Every day, news feed delivers your posts to your friends. Sometimes a particular friend might not notice your post, especially if a lot of their friends have been posting recently and your story isn’t near the top of their feed.
"When you promote a post – whether it’s wedding photos, a garage sale, or big news – you bump it higher in news feed so your friends and subscribers are more likely to notice it.”
The test is available to US users with fewer than 5,000 friends and subscribers.
Twitter has partnered up with Nielsen to start testing a new survey tool. Currently being tested by @TwitterSurveys, a verified account with protected tweets, the survey is aimed at Twitter’s advertising partners. The Twitter account will conduct surveys on the advertisers behalf and will be displayed in the users' timeline the same way Promoted Tweets currently do.
The survey feature is currently being tested, but Twitter intends to make it available for more brands in early 2013.
