More Olympic ticket turmoil

As we all know, trying to get Olympic tickets was a nightmare. The complexity of trying to acquire some was insane and left many people really unhappy, so obviously people were outraged when the Olympics started and there were still hundreds of empty seats.

When web developer Adam Naisbitt was looking for gymnastics tickets for his fiancée, he found that, when go to the official site, you have to look for seats, see they are unavailable and sit there refreshing your browser until they are available and then, by the time you get through to the Ticketmaster booking screen, they can be gone. This prompted him to set up the Twitter account @2012TicketAlert, which has enabled tens of thousands of people to get tickets to the games.

However, the account was shut down on Friday by Ticketmaster, apparently by a bot banning potential touts. Close to 30,000 of the account’s followers took to Twitter and slammed the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) as a result.

Naisbitt said he believed LOCOG was aware it had been closed down, but said technically it was TicketMaster who both blocked and reinstated his seat-seeking service.

“I got a call at 9pm on Friday night from Ticketmaster to establish who I was and then to make sure the script didn't interfere with their own system,” he said.

A Ticketmaster spokesman said: “We didn't target this guy, it was just an IP address that was acting unusually.” He added:

“Once Adam Naisbitt approached Ticketmaster and LOCOG, and we were able to establish that the activity was legitimate, we discussed with him the best way to re-enable access without compromising the performance of the website or the experience of consumers. We have now unrestricted @2012TicketAlert and we will to continue to remain focused on ensuring that the London 2012 website can sell as many tickets as possible to get even more sports fans to the Games.”

Pinterest is open

On Wednesday 8 August, Pinterest announced open registration. Previously, to join the site you would have to be invited or join the waiting list. You can now join the platform using Facebook and Twitter as well as the new email registration feature.

On the Pinterest blog, they said:

“We’re really excited to have the capacity to offer Pinterest to more people and if you’re a Pinner with friends who’ve been waiting on the sidelines, we hope you’ll let them know. Happy pinning to everyone!”

Sixteen year old trainer fan Matthew Walzer has written a heartfelt letter to Nike CEO Mark Parker to make him aware for the need of supportive and easily fastened shoes for people with cerebral palsy.

Walzer was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after he was born two months premature. Doctors told his parents that he would never be able to walk, but against all odds Mark managed to walk with the aid of crutches and his Nike High Tops, which provide him with great ankle support. However, Mark Walzer only has flexibility in one hand, which means he needs someone else to tie his shoes.

“I am always searching the web for any type of shoe brand that makes athletic shoes that provide good support, are self-lacing and are made for everyday wear or for playing sports,” Walzer wrote. “I hope that… Nike will consider being the forerunner in producing athletic shoes that will make [a] difference in the quality of so many lives.”

Shoe blog Nice Kicks got involved and on Wednesday Matt Halfhill posted the below video to support Walzer and help get CEO Mark Parker to read the letter. For every RT of his post, Nice Kicks will send a postcard from the tweeter to Nike HQ, with hopes that a truck will be needed to deliver them all and thus mean that Mark Parker will definitely be aware of the cause.
